Pioneer Softball Team Dominates in Subdistrict Tournament
NEBRASKA CITY, NE - The Nebraska City softball squad emphatically punched its ticket to the B-6 District Final by winning a pair of run-rule games against Roncalli Catholic/Duchesne Academy and Plattsmouth on Monday.
The Pioneers opened up the tournament with a 12-1 win over Roncalli Catholic/Duchesne Academy in four innings. Lextyn Harker nabbed the complete game win. She allowed five hits and a walk while striking out four. At the dish, Hanna Marth drove home half of the team's runs, went yard, and scored once in a 2/3 performance. Rylie Beethe wound up 3/3 with two runs, an RBI, and a pair of stolen bases; and Kolbi Davis scored twice, doubled, drove in a pair, walked once, and swiped a bag.
Plattsmouth's 7-0 win over Omaha Gross Catholic set up the Blue Devils to get knocked down by Nebraska City next, and the Pioneers obliged with an 11-1 win in four innings. Kolbi Davis notched the victory, allowing just two hits with six K's. Halle Nickels plated four, scored once, and hit one out; and Tarryn Godsey was 2/3 and plated a pair.
Nebraska City moves to 26-4 on the season. They received the six-seed and will host eleven-seed Gretna East in the B-6 District Finals, which is a best-of-three series. The Griffins are 16-13 on the year and made the tournament despite losing in the opening round of the B-3 Subdistrict Tourney to Bennington.
Elsewhere in River Country, Auburn won the Subdistrict C-10 Tourney on Monday to advance to the District Final. The second-seeded Bulldogs took out Cozad, 10-2, while the top-seed Boone Central beat FCEMF, 19-15, to set up the Subdistrict title game. Auburn would advance in a high-scoring clash over Boone Central, 12-11. The Bulldogs improved to 20-10 on the year, and they'll be the 12-seed as they take on five-seed Douglas County West (22-8) in the C-5 District Final. Game one is slated for 10am on Saturday, October 12.
The other two River Country softball squads were eliminated in their Subdistrict openers. Syracuse dropped a 15-7 decision to top-seed Kearney Catholic in the Subdistrict C7 bracket & Falls City was shut out by Ponca, 14-0, in the Subdistrict C1 Tournament.
