Safety outreach set at Nebraska City under dismal seat belt usage
Otoe County has woeful record for seat belt usage

NEBRASKA CITY - The Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office is hosting a safety-focused community outreach at Nebraska City, where the seat belt usage record is dismal.
The meeting is intended to raise awareness about traffic safety, fatalities, injuries and seat belt usage. It will provide opportunity for feedback from teens, parents and community members on local safety initiatives.
The meeting is scheduled at the Rowe Safety Complex from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
A transportation department press release says the importance of seat belts will be emphasized as more than 70 percent of fatalities in Nebraska were not buckled up.
Otoe County has the second lowest seat belt usage rate in crashes among all counties in the state.
The press release says wearing a seat belt significantly increases safety, making every person 45 percent more likely to survive a crash.
