New Head Coach Named for Peru State's Women's Basketball Team
PERU, NE - Peru State Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Mike Sybrant to take over the Bobcat women's basketball program.
Coach Sybrant spent the past season as the assistant coach of the Women's Basketball program helping lead the Bobcats to their first Heart Conference tournament in eleven years. Additionally, the Women's program produced five NAIA Scholar-Athletes, four All-Conference players, two 1,000-point scorers, and one player on the All-Defensive Team.
Here's what Athletic Director, Kyle Pond, had to say about Sybrant:
"We are lucky to have a coach on staff of Mikes caliber and the decision to promote him was an easy one. Coach Sybrant's work rate, knowledge of the game and love of Peru have been easy to see this year. We look forward to the continued success and improvement of our women's basketball program!"
Prior to Peru State, Coach Sybrant spent four seasons at Division II South Dakota School of Mines in Rapid City. During this time, he led the Hardrockers to back-to-back playoffs, eight student-athletes to All-Conference teams, coached three 1,000-point scorers and one RMAC Academic Player of the Year.
Additionally, Coach Sybrant coached at Northeastern Junior College where they were named #4 in the nation on the WBCA list for top junior college team grade point average and were named #10 in the nation on the WBCA list. As an assistant coach at Upper Iowa University his team reached #1 in the national poll while having the highest team grade point average of all teams.
Sybrant earned his Bachelor of Arts in Education and Master of Arts in Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in Kearney, NE. He currently resides in Nebraska City, Nebraska.
