NEBRASKA CITY - Flood warnings have been issued for the Missouri River.

  • At Plattsmouth, affecting Cass and Mills counties.
  • At Nebraska City affecting Otoe and Fremont counties
  • At Brownville affecting Nemaha and Atchison counties
  • At Rulo affecting Richardson County

NEBRASKA CITY - The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings along the Missouri River from Plattsmouth to Rulo.

The river is expected to rise six feet by Wednesday due to torrential rain in recent thunderstorms. It is expected to crest below the moderate flood stage, but will flood a campground at Plattsmouth, agricultural land at Nebraska City, the road to the Cooper Nuclear Plant at Brownville and several riverside cabins at Rulo.

Floodwaters are pouring into the river from rains of three inches or more from David City to Blair in the Platte River valley. 7 inches of rain is recorded at Wahoo and six inches west of Omaha.

The flooding will impact Nebraska as well as Cass, Mills and Fremont counties in Iowa and Atchison County, Mo.

 

The Missouri River is forecast to crest at 27.4 feet at Plattsmouth, about 1.4 feet above minor flood stage. The campground upstream of the gauge will flood.

The river is forecast to crest at 20.5 feet at Nebraska City on Wednesday, after rising six feet to about 2.5 feet above minor flood stage. It will begin to be impactful to agricultural areas.

 


The Missouri River is forecast to crest at 38 feet at Brownville, just below the moderate flood stage of 38.5 feet. The parking lot and boat ramp south of Highway 136 will be underwater. The road to the power plant begins to flood at 35 feet, three feet blow the projected crest.

The river at Rulo is project to crest below moderate flood stage of 21 feet. Several riverfront cabins along the Nebraska side will begin to flood. The Rulo boat ramp and agricultural areas will be under water.

The West Nishnabotna River at Pottawatomie County and at mills and Fremont counties is also under a flood warning.
