SIDNEY - The Fremont County Fair is scheduled at Sidney, Iowa, from July 12 to 17.
Two new open class categories are part of this year’s fair.
Superintendent Michelle Beard is hoping to reverse the trend of declining entries in open class. She is joined by Nancy Hudnall, Becky Shull, Janice Chaney and JoAnn Birkby in the open class division.
Refinished/Recycled/Repurposed is one of the new categories in 2023.
This category includes any item that has been upgraded from its previous state.
It may include refinished, reupholstered or repainted furniture, as well as recycled objects turned into art.
An Ugly Cake Contest is the second of two new categories at fair.
Cakes must be fresh and made by the exhibitor. All must be edible.
This category will be judged by popular vote. The winner takes half of the money deposited in the container.
The container with the most money in each age division will win the popular vote.
Ribbons are being added this year to the “Citizen Showcase” and this year’s theme of Coke vs. Pepsi.
- Entries for both categories will be accepted in the Open Class building during Open Class registration on Wednesday, July 12, from 5:30-6:30 pm. and Thursday, July 13, from 8-11 am.
