NEBRASKA CITY – Jose and Gloria Hincapie were surprised Thursday morning when they went to to inspect wind damage on their fence – the red-headed face of a turkey vulture was poking through.
Turkey vulture decoys are hung around the city’s water tower to deter the vultures from roosting there, but wind gusts over 50 mph are blamed for breaking two of the decoys free. One landed in the yard 40 yards from the tower and another blasted a hole into the fence.
Two other decoys remained aloft.
The wind also blew over a panel in the fence, which Hincapie said had been previously damaged.
