SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. – A head-on collision Tuesday evening on Five Rocks Road near the Union Pacific Railway underpass resulted in multiple injuries and extensive vehicle damage, according to the Scottsbluff Police Department.

The crash occurred around 5:21 p.m. and involved a 2019 white Ford Expedition, driven by 67-year-old Marsha Rodgers Vaughn of Mitchell, and a 2019 white GMC Yukon, driven by 46-year-old Rebecca Pierce of Torrington, Wyoming.

Investigators say the Ford Expedition was traveling northbound when Vaughn veered into the southbound lane to avoid a collision caused by suddenly slowing traffic. Her vehicle collided head-on with the southbound GMC Yukon.

The Expedition carried one adult female passenger, while the Yukon had two juvenile passengers. All individuals involved were transported by ambulance to Regional West Medical Center. Police say several victims sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Both vehicles suffered extensive damage and were towed from the scene. Five Rocks Road was closed for nearly two hours while emergency crews treated the injured, conducted the crash investigation, and cleared the wreckage.

Assisting at the scene were the Gering Police Department, Regional West Ambulance Services, and the Scottsbluff Rural Fire Department.

The Scottsbluff Police Department continues to investigate the incident.
