Darlene Reuter, 71, of Humboldt
Darlene Ann (Steinblock) Reuter, 71, formerly of rural Humboldt, Nebraska was born on January 11, 1951 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Karl and Adela (Fiegener) Steinblock. When she was five years old, her family moved to Dawson, Nebraska. In 1969, Darlene graduated from Dawson High School and then worked at the hospital in Humboldt before attending nursing school in Omaha to become an LPN. After completing her LPN training, she worked at the Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn for a few years. On July 24, 1976, Darlene was united in marriage to John Reuter at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson. They made their home on a farm northwest of Humboldt and had four children, Amy, David, Thomas and Sarah. Darlene and John raised livestock together on their farm, along with their children, for many years.
Darlene was very involved in her church, St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed helping with CCD and Altar Society, the fair stand, and numerous other church activities. Darlene was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. She volunteered at the school and at the nursing home in Humboldt many times over the years. Besides working on the farm, Darlene enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and listening to music.
Darlene passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023, at the Falls City Care Center in Falls City, Nebraska having reached the earthly age of 71 years, 11 months and 22 days. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, George and Antie (Rickers) Steinblock and Godfrey and Caroline (Forst) Fiegener, a sister Ruth (Joseph) Bame.
Darlene is survived by her husband John Reuter of rural Humboldt, NE; children: Amy Mattson and husband Mark of Elm Creek, NE; David Reuter and wife Olivia of rural Humboldt, NE; Thomas Reuter of rural Humboldt, NE; Sarah Pagnano and husband Matthew of rural Humboldt, NE; 12 grandchildren: Liam, Leah, Landon, Emma, Zachary, Avery and Emmitt Mattson, Kayla and Erin Reuter, and Lincoln, Felicity and Sebastian Pagnano, siblings: Linda (Steve) France of Falls City, NE; Kris Steinblock of Humboldt, NE; Rose (Dan) Goodman of Mayetta, KS; Rita (Steve) Walker of Beatrice, NE; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, January 9, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson, Nebraska with Father Kenneth Hoesing officiating. Interment will immediately follow mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Dawson.
Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the Wherry Mortuary, 207 N. Nemaha Street in Humboldt, Nebraska. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. by Father Hoesing at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dawson, Nebraska.
Memorial contributions may be given the St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Alzheimer Research Center.
