NEBRASKA CITY – Nebraska City High School introduced the Wirth Foundation Friday at the debut night for the new field turf at Pioneer Field.

The foundation, which donated to resurface the track in 2012, provided $400,000 for the new turf.

Representing the foundation were Nancy Lutz, Paul Madsen, Gail Walford, Duane Smith and Kelly Werts.

Werts: “It’s just something that is used by so many people , so many kids, so many different groups that use it.  It touches a lot of lives, a lot of people , a lot of kids. It seemed like something worthwhile. We didn’t want these, these grades to miss out.”

Pioneer Coach Caleb Walker: “We feel so lucky, so blessed to have such a great playing surface. Super excited about being out here the first night on homecoming, we can’t wait to get on the field and play.”

Walker: “It was hard to tell who was more excited me or them to be honest. It changes the mood. It changed the environment. Having a nice field like this just makes us feel like we’re getting an investment into something we’re really trying to do, so it feels pretty good.”
