OMAHA, Neb. -- On Wednesday, an Omaha man was sentenced to three years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. 

The U.S. Attorney announced that 31-year-old Tyshown Ashley was sentenced in federal court in Omaha for felon in possession of a firearm. 

The U.S. District Judge sentenced Ashley to 36 months in prison. 

After his release from prison, Ashley will begin a three-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system. 

According to court documents, on June 30, 2021, Ashley was a passenger in a car pulled over by Omaha police. Ashley ran from the car and was tackled after a short foot pursuit.

During a search of the vehicle, officers found a loaded 9mm Taurus handgun underneath the seat Ashley had been sitting in.

Ashley, a convicted felon, later admitted that the firearm was his.
