SYRACUSE – There were only 3 minutes left in the first half before the Syracuse girls missed a 3-point attempt in their season opener Friday and the Rockets cruised behind 28 points from senior Lilly Vollertsen for a victory over Falls City.

Vollertsen scored the first five points of the game and joined Kaylee Bures and Delainey Cast with 3-pointers to drive the Rockets to an 18 to 7 first quarter lead.

Cast later stole a Tiger pass and turned it into a layup basket to put Syracuse up 34 to 8.

Falls City’s Isabelle Armbruster landed the last shot of the game as the Tigers fall 56 to 23.
