Auburn school sets special meeting on possible COVID protocols

AUBURN – The Auburn School Board has scheduled a special meeting on Monday, Aug. 23, regarding possible protocols for the coronavirus pandemic.
The meeting at the J Street school auditorium is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. It will also be available on Zoom.
Teachers returned to the buildings on Aug. 9 and the first day of school was Friday, Aug. 13.
The school last updated the “safe return to learn plan” on its website on July 12.
Calvert Elementary School was closed Thursday and is scheduled to remain closed Friday.
The following message was sent to parents and staff of Calvert Elementary"
"To All Parents and Staff of Calvert Elementary. Due to positive COVID cases at Calvert Elementary, and with guidance from local health officials, it has been decided that Calvert Elementary will be closed to all students and staff on Thursday, August 19th and Friday, August 20th. Calvert Elementary will reopen to staff and students on Monday August, 23rd with the requirement that all staff and students wear face coverings. The time frame of this requirement will be evaluated on an on-going basis."
The school posted to Facebook on Thursday that the little cheer camp at the football scrimmage planned Friday has been canceled.
The safe return to learn protocols are based on the rate of new cases per 100,000 on a seven-day rolling average, percent of positive cases, a three-week average positivity rate, new cases per day, the total number of students isolating weekly, the total number of staff isolating and other factors.
