SYRACUSE - A housing surge was reported at Wednesday’s Syracuse City Council meeting.

Seven building permits have been issued for new houses through June, compared to zero for the first six months of 2020.

There are also six commercial building permits issues so far this year. The value of residential, commercial and other permits is $6 million.

Syracuse is in the midst of a housing shortage with a waiting list. Most of the those new homes being built  are for current Syracuse residents, whose homes have already been sold.
