Plattsmouth airport reports snow for 21 hours over the weekend

NEBRASKA CITY – The addition of up to five inches of snow over most of River Country this weekend is raising this winter among the top 10 snowiest since World War II.

The Plattsmouth Airport reports light snow from 5:55 a.m. Saturday to 1:35 p.m. and from 6:15 a.m. on Sunday until 10 p.m. Overall, light snow was reported for 21 hours over the weekend.

The Nebraska City Airport reported temperatures dropping to 0 at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday and dropping to negative 8 by 11:15 p.m.

Nebraska City Street Commissioner Vic Johns said crews were out from Sunday at 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. He reports from five to seven inches of snow.

The high temperature before sunset on Sunday was zero.

 

Nine inches of snow was reported at Grand Island and 8 inches at Hastings. 

The area has received 43.1 inches of snowfall in 2020-21. The average is 26.7”.

According to National Weather Service Records, three of the heaviest snow seasons on record have come since 2009.
