TECUMSEH – James Pilcher, a 30-year-old inmate at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution, was sentenced Monday to an additional 10 to 20 years for an attack on a staff member.
Johnson County Attorney Rick Smith says a staff member was retrieving an item from Pilcher’s cell, when Pilcher reached out through the hatch in his cell door and swung a makeshift knife. The staff member suffered a superficial puncture wound on Oct. 25, 2018.
Pilcher was serving a six-year sentence for assault out of Lancaster County. He is scheduled for a parole hearing this month and was projected for release in November of 2022.
Judge Schreiner added the 10 to 20 years to begin at the conclusion of the assault sentence.
