PLATTSMOUTH - Despite today’s winter storm warning, it’s business as “unusual” in Plattsmouth.

The National Weather Service included Cass County in the storm warning and area airports were reporting wind gusts in the range of 40 mph today, but the weather hasn’t seemed to stop shoppers.

There is one downtown store with a sign saying they are closed due to the weather, others are open.

Alicia Garber, president of the Plattsmouth Chamber of Commerce, said the winter weather is just the latest challenge in the pandemic year of 2020.

In recent years, the Plattsmouth chamber’s focus has been on its big events like the food  truck wars or cruisin’ main, but Garber said the pandemic forced a review of that focus. In 2021, she says, they plan to continue to reach out to business members and see how the chamber can help.

It was business as “unusual” for shoppers Wednesday morning, but it was a different story for some Christmas decorators.

Leroy Lewis of Plattsmouth says he is not a big fan of the winter storm.

Lewis: “Normally we’re able to keep the blow up decorations up without much of a problem, but today I obviously have a problem with my Santa bear one.”

No matter what the weather, he said, Nebraskans are looking forward to a nice holiday.

Lewis: “Never let the weather ruin Christmas, no matter what it’s doing.”
