SIDNEY, NE - An emergency landing at the Sidney Municipal Airport ended safely Thursday morning.

Sidney Fire Chief Laverne Bown says a plane lost part of its landing gear while attempting to land at the airport. The pilot was able to get back in the air.

The pilot then circled the airport while first responders and airport officials communicated with him to safely bring him down.

When the pilot landed the plane, they used a grass strip next to the landing strip to lessen the impact.

Bown says the pilot was the only one in the plane. They were uninjured and walked away from the incident.

The pilot told Bown high winds actually helped him land because it slowed his plane down.
