SIDNEY, NE - Friday marks a month since the Cheyenne County Community Center (CCCC) closed its doors to the public due to COVID-19. It will remain that way until at least May 11th.

CCCC Director Michael Namuth is hopeful that date won't be pushed out any further.

"I'm fairly optimistic," Namuth said. "Listening to the governor's briefings, he hasn't really indicated that he plans on extending the directed health measure from May 11th so that's what we're shooting for right now."

Namuth said when the center is ready to reopen, they may have to do it in stages to abide by restrictions that may still be in place regarding social distancing.

For example, Namuth says they may reopen the weight room and cardio room, but have to keep the gymnasium closed at first to prevent kids and others from gathering in too large of groups or not spread out enough.

While the CCCC has been closed, Namuth says the staff has been focusing on cleaning equipment and rooms and repainting most of the facility.

"We've been keeping the employees busy," he said. "I believe we've gone through just about 65 gallons of paint."

The Community Center is also posting workout tips to their Facebook page to help people stay active while the facility is closed. They are also still offering congregate meals through home delivery and curbside pick up.

All memberships have temporarily been placed on hold while the facility is closed, meaning member's expiration dates on the memberships are being pushed back to account for the missed time.

Any monthly billing has also been suspended during the closure.
