AUBURN – Weeping Water advanced in the first round of the D1-2 girls basketball subdistrict with a 52 to 31 win over Pawnee City.

Weeping Water’s Peyton Barrett and Grace Cave accounted for 42 of the team’s 52 points, but 3-pointers by junior Reagan Aronson started and ended the first quarter.

Aronson’s second 3-pointer gave Weeping Water a 20 to 7 first quarter lead.

After taking a 21-point lead in the third quarter,  Cave stole the ball on far end of the court. She dribbled out of traffic, cruised with Pawnee City defenders down the court and was fouled while making a precision layup and putting Weeping Water up 47 to 22.

Weeping Water’s record improves to 23 and 1. They will play the winner of Johnson-Brock and HTRS at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
