PERCIVAL – The Iowa State Patrol reports an injury accident on Iowa Highway 2 Friday at 4:45 p.m.

A 2013 Ford F250 driven by Vernon Christiansen, 54, of Nebraska City did not yield to traffic stopped on the eastbound lane in a construction zone of the highway.

The pickup rear-ended a 2017 Subaru Outback driven by Maureen Fowler, 63, of Lincoln and pushed the Subaru into a 2014 GMC Acadia driven by Teresa Hopkins, 59, of Sidney. The GMC was pushed into the back of a fourth vehicle.

The state patrol says the Subaru was spun into the opposite lane and the pickup crossed the center line and struck a fifth vehicle head on. The fifth vehicle collided with the fourth vehicle, a Ford F150.

Injuries were reported to Christiansen, who was taken by medical helicopter to Bergan Mercy, and Fowler, who was taken to CHI St. Mary’s. Hopkins was taken to Grape Community.

The highway was blocked for over two hours and traffic backed up from Interstate 29 to Highway 75 at Nebraska City.
