According to the Brown County Sheriff’s Office, authorities received information about the juvenile on March 1. Officials said the people who had transported her did not realize she was a minor.
The chief deputy made contact with those individuals, took the girl into protective custody and brought her to the sheriff’s office. There, a dispatcher/jailer with extensive mental health training stayed with her while the Probation Office worked to find appropriate placement.
Then, the chief deputy and dispatcher/jailer transported the girl to a facility in southeastern Nebraska, where she will receive specialized support.
The sheriff’s office expressed appreciation to the Probation Office and the Sarpy County Juvenile Justice Center for their help in coordinating her care.
