Jim Reed, 81 of Nebraska City

Jim Reed, age 81 of Nebraska City passed away on February 16, 2026 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City.
Jim was born James Samuel Reed on October 23, 1944 in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Ralph Lewis and Louise Pauline (Gress) Reed. He attended school in Nebraska City and graduated from the Nebraska City High School with the Class of 1963.
After his graduation from high school, Jim worked for several years for his dad Ralph. He later worked on the paving crew when Interstate 29 was built. In 1971, he began his career with the former LT&T (Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph) Company and worked there for 30 years until his retirement in 2001. Following his retirement, he worked at various other places.
Jim was united in marriage to Sue Walters in Nebraska City and she preceded him in death on October 6, 1973. He later married Janet Kay Weers on February 12, 1982 and they shared over 44 years of their lives together. He was a life-time member of the Eagles Club and the Otoe County Wildlife Club and served in the Nebraska Army National Guard.
He is survived by his wife Janet Reed of Nebraska City; daughters: Roxan Humlicek and husband Gerald of Prague, NE and Angela Bishop and husband Jeff of St. Joseph, MO; his grandson that he referred to as Gramps’ Best Buddy, Zachary Peters and sig. other Grace of Lincoln, NE; a brother Ralph Reed and wife Barbara of Philomath, OR; other extended family and many friends.
In addition to his first wife Sue, he was preceded in death by his dad Ralph in 1987 and mom Louise in 2015.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Sunday (Feb. 22) at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City.
Memorials in lieu of flowers may be directed to the Otoe County Wildlife Club.
