NEBRASKA CITY - The Nebraska City School Board approved girls seventh and eighth grade wrestling  for the October through December season.

School board documents say the sport gives middle school girls the chance to compete in four seasons that mirror programs currently offered with boys programs.

Objectives listed include an inclusive environment, physical fitness among female students and building the program for the high school.

A head coach is expected to cost $2,133. Assistant coaches may be added if more than 10 athletes participate.

Officials at home events will cost $150 and $300 for invitationals.

At its April meeting, the board also reinstated high school welding courses for 2024-25
