NEBRASKA CITY – City commissioners approved the final plat for a city-owned housing development project on the old Grundman Airfield location.

The plat map includes 23 single-family lots and two multi-family town home lots. There is space in the recently- annexed Kreifels Hills Subdivision for 50 additional housing lots that are not part of the final plat approved Monday, but are part of the overall workforce housing plan.

Construction Facilities Manager Marty Stovall said the project should be let out for bids in September with a base bid that includes grading for the entire site. A water line will also be extended to CHI Health St. Mary’s.

Stovall expects dirt work to begin this winter with road and infrastructure construction next fall.

City commissioners also welcomed improvements to Clemmy Holmes Field as funded by the Nebraska City Baseball Association.

The association plans to replace the current back stop fencing with a netting system and wood backstop for $43,000.

In other action, City Administrator Perry Mader was named to the executive board of the Nebraska  City Creative District.

The city voted to demolish a nuisance property at 516 N. 13th St. Building Inspector Keith Morrison said owners were notified in March but have made no moves to rectify unsafe conditions. The low bid to demolish was $9,600.

The city also approved change orders for the 11th Street turn lane project to include work on the viaduct and water lines north of Fourth Corso. The city expects the southern portion to open in 15 days and paving to begin on the northern portion on Thursday.

Police Chief David Lacy notified Dale Roettger that the city already has an ordinance that bans parking in alleys.
