OMAHA, Neb. -- A Nebraska high school basketball legend will not be returning to his home state after all.

Hunter Sallis spurned overtures from Nebraska and Creighton, choosing to transfer to Wake Forest instead.

The Huskers considered the former Millard North standout a priority after he announced his intention to transfer from Gonzaga.

The decision was initially reported by On3, with Sallis confirming the report on social media Wednesday.

Sallis played two seasons with the Bulldogs, averaging 16.7 minutes per game in his final year in Spokane. He scored 4.5 points per game this season, attempting just 3.2 field goals per game. He also served as one of the team's best perimeter defenders.

During his senior season at Millard North, Sallis averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.8 assists while leading the Mustangs to their first Class A title. He was a McDonald's All-American and was tabbed a five-star recruit.

The Huskers will continue their search for backcourt help after missing out on several key transfers this offseason. Nebraska has landed the services of transfers Brice Williams and Rienk Mast, while they await word from Keisei Tominaga on whether he will remain in the NBA Draft or return to Nebraska.

Creighton has also seen mixed success in the transfer portal this offseason, losing a number of key players while also landing Grand Island native Isaac Traudt and Steven Ashworth.
