Library plans 'many books' activity for community
Cow hunt scheduled May 1

NEBRASKA CITY – The Morton-James Public Library is launching the Many Books One Community program in April.
Every school-aged student in Nebraska City will receive a book and activity kit and 100 adults can request a copy of “No BetterFriend” by calling the library.
Families can also participate in a community cow hunt on May 1.
Participating businesses will have a picture of a cow with a name in their windows. Participants who collect cow names and turned them into the library will win a prize.

With thanks to the Paul, John, Anton & Doris Wirth Foundation, the Harry and Grace Moller Endowment, and the Nebraska City Community Foundation Fund, the Morton-James Public Library is launching “Many Books One Community” in April 2023. Books united on the theme of friendship have been chosen for reading levels preschool through adult. The selected books are:
Preschool and Kindergarten category: “Rescue and Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship” a picture book by Jessica Kensky, Patrick Downes, and Scott Magoon
1st through 3rd grade category: “Ivy Lost and Found” by Cynthia Lord
4th through 6th grade category: “Moo” by Sharon Creech or “Code Word Courage” by Kirby Larson
Adult Category: “No Better Friend: A Man, a Dog, and Their Incredible True Story of Friendship and Survival in World War II” by Robert Weintraub
Every school aged student in Nebraska City from preschool through 6th grade will receive a book and activity kit which will be distributed through the schools in the second and third weeks in April. Homeschool families who registered to receive book kits will be contacted when their kits are ready for pick up at the Library.
Adults can request a copy of “No Better Friend” by calling the Library at 402-873-5609. There are 100 copies to be given away on a first come first serve basis.
As part of the Many Books One Community initiative, families can participate in the Community Cow Hunt starting on May 1st. Participating businesses in Nebraska City will have a picture of a cow with a name in their windows and participants can collect cow names to turn in to the Library for a prize. A list of Cow Hunt businesses is included in the book kits that will be distributed to schools. Lists can also be picked up at the Library starting on May 1st.
