SPRINGFIELD, NE- The Platteview Trojans continued their hot start to the 2022 season by beating Nebraska City 48-13 on Friday night to improve to 3-0 on the season.

It was a slow moving start to the game, but plenty of action to keep the fans in Springfield intently watching. Platteview marched down the field on the first drive of the game, but fizzled out short of the end zone. The Pioneers defense held strong on three straight downs to take over inside their own five-yard line.

However, the defensive stop was short-lived after a low snap on fourth down gave it back to the Trojans at the two-yard line.

Platteview senior quarterback Jared Kuhl punched it in on the next play to give Platteview a 7-0 lead with 1:21 left in the first quarter.

The Trojans quarterback would double up on touchdowns after a Nebraska City fumble, and score his second rushing touchdown of the game, from four-yards out, to end the first quarter.

Kuhl and the Trojans tacked on another touchdown in the second quarter with a 46-yard jet sweep from Kuhl to junior Dezmond Straatmann to give Platteview a 20-0 lead.

The Pioneers responded on the next drive with a four-yard run from senior Bayler Poston to cut the deficit down to 13 points, 20-7.

Platteview grabbed another score before the end of the half on a 12-yard pass from Kuhl to senior Alex Draper.

The pair started the second half with another connection, this time from 49-yards out to jump the Trojans lead to 27 points, 34-7.

Platteview senior Ethan Golda ended the night for the Trojans starters with a one-yard touchdown run to begin the fourth quarter to make it 41-7.

Both teams scored once more in the waning minutes of the game to make the final score 48-13.

Platteview remains undefeated at 3-0, whereas Nebraska City is still looking for its first win of the season with an 0-3 record.
