OMAHA - Two River Country teams are set to battle it out on the diamond Monday night in the American Legion B-2 Area tournament semifinals at Omaha Roncalli with the season hanging in the balance.

Top-seeded Plattsmouth, which received a first-round bye, will take on Nebraska City Post 8 in an elimination game at 5:00 p.m. The winner is set to advance to the area championship game against Roncalli, unless three teams remain after tonight's action. Roncalli (2-0) takes on Waverly (1-1) at 8:00 p.m.

With a win, Roncalli will need to be beaten twice in the final on Tuesday. A loss would mean Waverly would play the winner of Plattsmouth and Nebraska City in a second semifinal with the championship to follow.

Nebraska City (2-1) has won two consecutive elimination games since an opening round defeat, beating rival Auburn 8-2 and Concordia 2-0 to stay alive. Plattsmouth got off to a hot start with a 15-1 rout of Concordia before losing 7-1 Sunday night to Roncalli.

The winner of the area will advance to the eight team Class B state tournament which begins July 30 at Paul Brown Field in Broken Bow.

Elsewhere, the senior legion team from Syracuse is still alive in Class C at Wymore. Four-seed Syracuse Post 100 will take on two-seeded Tecumseh Post 2 in the semifinals Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Arbor State Park. The winner plays Lincoln Lutheran in the championship Tuesday.

Syracuse lost to Lincoln Lutheran 6-3 on Sunday.

The semifinals feature a rematch from the second round, where Syracuse beat Tecumseh 9-5. Tecumseh committed 7 errors in the game.
