Payne suspected of fleeing arrest a second time
PLATTSMOUTH – Cass County sheriff’s deputies and state troopers arrested a Papillion man after a high-speed chase on Dec. 15.
Court records say Shay Payne Jr., 39, avoided stop sticks near the Platte River State Park and drove his Nissan Pathfinder at high speeds into Sarpy County, where he was arrested by state troopers.
Payne was wanted on an Otoe County warrant after he failed to show up for sentencing in February of 2020.
He had been convicted of operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest after fleeing a Highway 75 traffic stop at 124 mph.
Court records say Payne had active warrants out of Texas and Kansas and has 17 convictions for driving under suspension since March of 2020.
In a separate Cass County case, a deputy told the court that he was running radar in Alvo and initiated a traffic stop of a For pickup.
The pickup traveled at speeds up to 75 mph on dirt roads. The driver was taken into custody after a short foot pursuit.
David McKay, 36, is charged with operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest on Dec. 4.
