PERU – Marilyn Schlake and Charlotte Narjes of the University Extension’s rural prosperity staff offered an update on a recent grocery store survey in Peru.

They reported that 86 percent of respondents listed a grocery store as important to very important for the community.

Over half of respondents said a grocery store should have locally grown meat and vegetables, fresh bakery and deli.

Basic hardware supplies and a place to sit down for coffee or lunch were also prominent.

Schlake went over a number of grocery store models being tried in rural Nebraska.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled at 2 p.m. on Jan. 16.
