WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Monday a $530,000 investment in roadways to protect business from flooding in Nebraska City.

The city will receive the Disaster Relief Act grant with a local match of $132,000 to replace the 19th Street culvert south of Fifth Corso.

Interim City Administrator Marty Stovall said the project is critical for the protection of access to the city’s main industrial corridor and said the project would not be able to advance without the economic development funds.

He said the culvert has been on the city’s bridge inspection priority, but would likely remain in the planning stages if not for the economic development grant.

Stovall said the grant certainly speeds the process up.
