Palmtag: Legislature Has Failed, Tax Relief In Voters' Hands With Gambling Initiative

NEBRASKA CITY - Citing a dismal lack of leadership from the state Legislature, Republican Legislature candidate Janet Palmtag has announced her support for a ballot initiative that will authorize expanded gambling operations.
A press release from her campaign, says Palmtag links measures to allow gambling at licensed racetracks to property tax relief.
The ballot initiative on the Nov. 3 ballot would establish the Nebraska Gaming Commission to regulate gambling operations. It would also dedicate 70 percent of new revenue to property tax relief and money for the Compulsive Gamblers Assistance Fund.
"I've come to the conclusion that allowing gambling at racetracks in our state will provide for real property tax relief."

Palmtag: “I’ve traveled the district for the past several months listening to constituents and their deep concern about the property tax crisis. I have come to the conclusion that allowing gambling at racetracks in our state will provide for real property tax relief.”
Palmtag said the Legislature failed to provide sufficient property tax relief in its latest session.
Palmtag: “We need real property tax reform. This is how we get it. Tax revenue from expanded gambling is estimated to add $80-$120 million annually. Let's keep the money in Nebraska.”
Palmtag said the Legislature has failed, leaving property tax solutions up to the voters on the ballot initiative.
"The Legislature has failed. Now it's up to the people."

Palmtag: “The Legislature has failed. Now it's up to the people to vote for real property tax relief. Leaders have to listen. I have heard you! Let's fix this together."
Palmtag: “This dismal lack of leadership has convinced me that voters themselves must take action to ensure real property tax relief. Fortunately, on the November ballot, we have the power.”
The Palmtag campaign notes the Republican President Donald Trump is a strong supporter of casino gambling.
Nebraskans will vote on three initiatives on Nov. 3. If approved, the initiatives would amend the state constitution to legalize casino gambling at horse tracks. Racetracks in Omaha, Lincoln, South Sioux City, Columbus, Hastings and Grand Island would be eligible to host expanded gambling.
