SYRACUSE  - The owner of the Triple D Saloon in Syracuse is asking the city council to revert closing time back to 1 a.m.

Darren Allen told the city council he was never in favor of a 2 a.m. closing time, but stays open that late to be competitive with other bars in town.

Anthony Hensley of B&J’s Bar and Grill told News Channel Nebraska that Allen can set closing time at any hours he wants and he does not think the city should change its ordinance to force B&J’s to close any earlier.

At Wednesday’s meeting,  Mayor KC  Ortiz instructed City Attorney Jerry Stilmock to prepare an ordinance for the 1 a.m. closure to be considered at the October council meeting.

City records show that Councilwoman Deb Dettmer and Councilman Orv Gigstad were in favor of the 2 a.m. change on May 11, 2016.

Sheriff Colin Caudill told News Channel Nebraska that there have been no enforcement issues with the 2 a.m. closing time.
