NEBRASKA CITY - Most of River Country is experiencing 50 hours and counting of subzero temperatures and windchills as low as negative 23  over the weekend.

The Nebraska City Airport reports below freezing temperatures since 4 p.m. Thursday. The temperature was negative 4 degrees Friday morning with a wind chill of negative 23.

Wind chills have been below zero since 9 p.m. on Thursday.

Despite winds less than 10 mph on Saturday, the wind chill held around 7 below. Light snow was reported over a six-hour period ending before noon on Saturday.

Prior to sunset Saturday, Nebraska 511 was reporting partially snow covered roads over most of River Country with completely covered highway from Plattsmouth to Louisville and Highway 1 east of Weeping Water.

Also completely covered south of Humboldt.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s online crash reports indicate an accident with serious injuries Saturday morning in Buchanan County.

A 61-year-old man was injured when his Dodge Ram pickup slide of a roadway, down an embankment and into a creek bed near St. Joseph, Mo.

Medical helicopter took the driver and a passenger to a trauma center. The accident reports says the pickup went into a slide to avoid a collision with an uninvolved commercial motor vehicle.

Other scanner traffic during the snow period Saturday included the sheriff’s office assisting a woman who was locked out in Humboldt and an accident near the railroad tracks and Highway 136 at Tecumseh.

The Nebraska State Patrol reported a reckless driver.
