Don C. Holmes, age 79 of Nebraska City, NE passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebr. City. 

Don Clair Holmes was born on October 18, 1946 in Ellensburg, WA; the son of Ivan and Gertrude Darlene (Ferry) Holmes.  He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Denver, CO. 

After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps and served for six years.  Don was a Truck Driver for many years and was a Loading Dock Foreman.  On September 26, 2020, he was united in marriage to Linda L. McKnight at the Lewis & Clark Center in Nebr. City. 

Don was an avid member of Calvary Community Church in Nebraska City, NE.  He liked his friends and he liked people.  He had a story about anything and everything one would talk about.  His pride and joy was his dog Ariel.  He named her and taught her many tricks like tossing food and catching it and to sit.  Don was able to help Linda out with her grammar and spelling.  Whenever she chose to have AI (Artificial Intelligence) write for her, he told her to do it on her own!   He wrote his born again testimony and shared this with many.  Don had nice brothers and sisters that he held in high esteem and often they would gather together in homes or other places.   He was well loved by all. 

He is survived by his wife Linda Holmes of Nebraska City, NE; sons: Aaron Holmes and Noah Holmes; two grandchildren: Glenn and Cory ; brother Dick Wever (Judy), sisters: Penny Beave and Dianne Mills (Douglas); other family and friends. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Donna Bell and Ilene Vaner. 

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Calvary Community Church in Nebr. City with Pastor Daniel Evertson officiating. Burial will follow at Clifton Cemetery, rural Brock, NE. 

Memorials may be given to the family.
