Knights Defend Castle From Invading Cowboys & Cowgirls on Saturday

NEBRASKA CITY, NE - The Lourdes Central Catholic Knights grabbed a pair of wins over Sidney, Iowa, on Saturday in a home basketball doubleheader.
In the opening contest, LCC held Sidney to just one point in the second quarter to build a 29-12 lead at recess on the way to a 46-23 win. Lourdes was led by the 14 points and three steals of Lily Madison. Amelia White chipped in with eight points & four steals, and Harper Rutt snagged nine rebounds to go with another three steals. The Knights shot a rough 2/22 from downtown in the win. Sidney dropped to 5-7 on the season, while LCC improved to 8-5.
The boys' game was all Lourdes, 67-42, despite a rough night at the free throw line. LCC hit eight treys to Sidney's seven, but the Cowboys outscored the Knights by nine at the FT line. Sidney hit 12/21 there, while LCC went just 3/15. Nonetheless, LCC walked away victorious. Sam Ebmeier led the team with 21, Vance Poppleton hit for 16, Oscar Krog tacked on eleven, and Justus Kreifels came off the bench for another ten. Sidney saw Aiden Stenzel knock down 21, while Carter Jorgenson finished with 16. Sidney now sits at 3-9 on the campaign, while LCC is at 4-9.
The Cowboys & Cowgirls will play in the Corner Conference Tourney this week, while Lourdes takes a trip to Lincoln Lutheran on Tuesday.
