Amphitheater, legal fees on city agenda

FALLS CITY- The Falls City City Council will meet at 6 p.m. today.
The agenda includes five chicken permits, rural water fee request and a grant application for the 2026 Civic and Community Center Financing Fund.
The city will consider hiring Baird Holm for legal services related to the Nebraska Power Review Board and infrastructure projects for the Energy Forward Transmission Project. City records limit the cost of legal service at $100,000 for the Energy Forward transmission project and $100,000 for the power plant project.
Baird Holm says its hourly billing is $515.
The Falls City Creative District proposes a civics grant for the Falls City amphitheater park project.
The $875,000 project was not selected in 2025, but received favorable comment for project readiness, community support and partnerships.
The city expects a $375,000 cash match and reports $265,000 already raised. The Stalder Foundation has pledged $200,000.
The outdoor amphitheater is proposed at 1506 Stone St. to improve the historic downtown district with space for music, farmers market, street dances and yoga classes. A stage will be attached to an existing building that will be used for city storage.
The grant application says a festival lawn will be available for daily use and city events, as well as public art.
