Sidney splits at Torrington
TORRINGTON WY - The Sidney Lady Raiders bounced back from a narrow loss to Class A Cheyenne East on Thursday with a dominant defensive performance Friday night, holding Torrington to just seven second-half points in a 47-24 road win.
Sidney used a balanced offensive attack early, with six different players scoring in the opening quarter to build a 14-10 lead. The game turned physical in the second period, but the Lady Raiders maintained control and carried a 25-17 advantage into halftime. Sidney’s defense took over after the break, allowing Torrington just one field goal in the third quarter. The Lady Raiders scored 12 points in the period, six coming from Laramey Misegadis, to open up an 18-point cushion at 37-19.
The defensive effort continued in the fourth, as Torrington managed only a single field goal and three free throws the rest of the way.
Misegadis led Sidney with 17 points, while Natalie Long paced Torrington with 11.
A strong three-quarter effort came up short for the Sidney Red Raiders, as Torrington rallied in the final period to hand Sidney a heartbreaking 48-46 loss.
Sidney led for most of the first three quarters. Rhys Dorcey scored eight first-quarter points to give the Red Raiders a 14-13 edge after one. Sidney extended the lead in the second, holding Torrington to just eight points to take a 25-21 advantage at halftime.
The Red Raiders continued to control the game in the third quarter. Kale Kaiser scored six of Sidney’s 12 points in the period, while the defense limited Torrington to two field goals, pushing the lead to 37-29 heading into the fourth.
Torrington’s rally was fueled by scrappy defense and hot shooting from Julian Stromski. The junior scored 13 of his game-high 28 points in the final quarter, knocking down two three-pointers, including the game winner.
Sidney briefly took a 46-45 advantage on a Dorcey free-throw just before Stromski’s three put the Trailblazers up 48-46. A Sidney turnover at midcourt sealed the loss for the Red Raiders.
Kash Knobbe led Sidney with 16 points, Dorcey added 11, and Kaiser finished with 10. Stromski’s 28 points led Torrington, while Connor Correll chipped in 10 off the bench.
