NEBRASKA CITY, NE - Shenandoah, IA, crossed the border to take a pair of wins from Nebraska City on Friday in high school hoops, as heard on B103.

In the opening contest, the Fillies built a six-point lead after one quarter and added a little to it in each frame for a 45-32 victory. Kalyn Scamman led the charge with 17 points, Sloane McGinnis chipped in with 12 points & eight boards, while Ava O'Rourke hit for a double-double with ten points & ten rebounds to go with five assists & five steals. NC was led by Lexi Brown with ten points. The Pioneers were just 1/20 from downtown in the loss. Shenandoah is now 5-1 on the season, while Neb. City sits at 1-4.

The second game of the night saw the Mustangs narrowly escaped with a 49-47 win over the Pioneers in the boys' game. Shenandoah held a four-point lead after the first quarter, but Nebraska City battled back for a one-point lead at the break. The Pioneers pushed it to a two-point edge heading into the fourth, but the Mustangs got the victory in the closing seconds. Down by three NC's Kaiden Klassen hit from downtown to tie the game at 47 with 7.5 seconds to play. Carter Sells was fouled with 5.1 seconds to go and drained both freebies for the final score. NC had three shots to tie it in the closing moments, but they could not connect. Sells led everyone with 21 points for Shenandoah, while Joe O'Rourke helped the Mustangs with 14 points & ten rebounds. Kaiden Klassen finished with 19 points & eleven rebounds for NC, while Mitchell Hodges sunk eleven. NC fell to 2-3 on the season, while Shenandoah improved to 3-2.

The Neb. City squads visit Syracuse on Tuesday, while Shenandoah hosts Clarinda on Monday.
