Wayne A. Goering, age 78 of Nebr. City (formerly Auburn) passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on January 17, 1947 at the former Brown Hospital in Nebraska City, NE; the son of Donald L. and Ella M. (Williams) Goering.  He attended school in Brock, Stella, Howe and Auburn, where he graduated from the Auburn High School with the Class of 1965. 

He was united in marriage to Judy Ann Rhoden on January 20, 1968 in Plattsmouth, NE at the First Presbyterian Church and to this union two children were born:  Stephanie and Michael.

At a young age, Wayne worked for Western Electric.  He later began farming with his brothers and dad until 1977 when he owned and operated Wayne’s APCO in Tecumseh, NE.  In 1978, he began his career at OPPD (Omaha Public Power District) where he served as an Energy Marketer.  He retired from OPPD in 2005 after some 27 years of employment there.    He served in the Nebraska Army National Guard and was a former member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Judy Goering of Nebr. City; children:  Stephanie Roth and husband Ryan of Nebr. City and Michael Goering and wife Cassandra of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren:  Nicki Krejci,   Zander Blayne, Sawyer Reese, Devan Roth (girlfriend Evea LaPointe), Rhylie (Roth) Suhr and husband Christian, great-grandson Bodi Lee Suhr; siblings:  Donald Delyn Goering and wife Marcia, Rita Ingersoll and husband Joe, Jo Ellyn Neemann and husband Steve, Dennis Goering all of Auburn, NE; brother-in-law Larry Rhoden (Annalie) of Hawaii; sister-in-law RaeAnn Goering of Auburn, NE; nieces, nephews,  other family and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents Don and Ella Goering; a brother Gary Dee Goering and father and mother-in-law Darwin and Delores (Yardley) Rhoden.

A Celebration of Wayne’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City. 

The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday (12/18) at the mortuary.

Memorials may be given to the Nebraska City Fire and Rescue in lieu of flowers.
