 NEBRASKA CITY – Otoe County Emergency Management used near completion of the new roof at the courthouse as a training opportunity for its drone photography.

EMA Director Gregg Goebel and Greg Conz photographed the $400,000 roof project Tuesday.

 

A storm in April of 2023 including damaging golf-ball sized hail, causing widespread damage.

Nebraska has recorded over 548 hailstorms since 2012. The state is listed as the sixth highest in terms of hail damage in the United States.

Commissioner Jared Sornson said the roof project included removing the copper-style roof and replacing it with an all-metal roof that he expects to be stand up most future hail storms. He said work on the cupola needs to be scheduled later.
