Supervisors asked to join opposition to Iowa carbon pipeline

SIDNEY - The Fremont County Board of Supervisors discussed opposition to carbon pipelines that include service to an ethanol plant in Shenandoah.
Minutes of an October meeting say Jan Norris of Montgomery County urged supervisors to join legal action taken by Shelby and Story counties in hopes of overturning a court ruling preventing counties from banning carbon sequestration projects.
She seeks county financial support for legal actions, including an amicus brief intended to recognize local zoning ordinances above federal safety standards.
The county earlier offered an objection to using eminent domain to establish carbon pipelines.
Norris told supervisors to inquire about adding water usage at the Shenandoah ethanol plant for the purpose of carbon sequestration.
Summit Carbon Solutions proposes a pipeline that would cross nearly 700 miles in Iowa.
