Halloween pursuit ends in Highway 75 crash

AUBURN - The Nemaha County Sheriff’s Office reports a Halloween pursuit that resulted in a Highway 75 accident.
John Newberry III, 50, of Omaha is suspected of flight to avoid arrest. The sheriff’s office says a vehicle he was driving crossed the center line south of Auburn and side-swiped a southbound vehicle.
30-year-old Thomas Carodine of Omaha was also arrested on a Sarpy County warrant.
Newberry’s vehicle was being pursued by Richardson County sheriff’s deputies and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Kansas.
Kansas news reports indicate that two men are suspected of stealing a large amount of merchandise from the Holton Walmart store.
Investigators say the men left through the store’s emergency exit with two shopping carts and loaded a Toyota passenger car.
Officers recovered $3,421 worth of merchandise from the vehicle.
