NEBRASKA CITY, NE - On a chilly and misty Friday night in Nebraska City, the Auburn Bulldogs rode their rushing attack to a 54-14 win over the host Nebraska City Pioneers, as heard on B103.

It was a bit of a hectic start as Auburn got the ball first but fumbled on a handoff that gave the ball to Nebraska City. On the Pioneers' first play, quarterback Landon Ferguson was picked off and that gave the ball back to Auburn in plus territory at the 31.

It didn’t take long for the Bulldogs to get on the board as quarterback Brenton Wenzl ran it in for a 31-yard touchdown with just under eight minutes left in the first quarter as Auburn took a 7-0 lead. The Pioneers quickly responded with a 67-yard touchdown run from Ferguson but a missed extra point made it 7-6.

After the Nebraska City defense came up with a stop, Tyrese Gardner powered his way into the endzone for a 31-yard touchdown run of his own. They converted on the two-point conversion and made it 14-7 Nebraska City with just over three minutes remaining in the first.

The Pioneers didn’t keep the lead long as Lane Jones housed the kickoff for 97 yards and the Bulldogs' two-point conversion gave them a 15-14 lead late in the first.

The second quarter featured more scoring by Auburn as a 36-yard touchdown pass from Wenzl to Clayton Brown made it 22-14 early in the second. They scored again with two minutes remaining as Brown scampered into the endzone from three yards out to make it 29-14 Bulldogs. Cameron Becker added a 34-yard field goal as time expired to bring us to the half at 32-14 Bulldogs.

The third quarter was scoreless, but with 11 minutes left in the fourth, Clayton Brown scored his third touchdown of the game on a 29-yard run to make it 39-14. Brown wasn’t done yet, turning in an 81-yard touchdown run with under eight minutes to go, making it 47-14. A one-yard Riley Dickerson TD made it 54-14 for the final score.

Brown finished with four touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs. Auburn ends their season at 4-5, while the Pioneers finish the year at 2-7.
