Auburn sales tax comes in below budget

AUBURN - Auburn sales tax collections are coming in below budget for 2025.

The city budgeted $650,000 for sales tax, but is $27,000 short by the end of the fiscal year in September.

Sales tax collections exceeded the monthly budget in December and February.

Net taxable sales in 2024 were $43 million, about $6 million more than the previous year. Taxable sales in 2024 included $15 million from retail trade and $7.7 million from accommodation and food services.

Cass County had $169 million, including $68 million in retail trade and $21 million in accommodation and food service. Cass County also had $7.8 million in arts, entertainment and recreation.

Johnson County had $27 million, including $14 million in retail trade.

Otoe County had $181 million, including $80 million in retail trade, $38 million in accommodation and food service and $11 million in arts, entertainment and recreation.

Pawnee County had $15 million, including $5.7 in retail trade.

Richardson County has $55 million, including $20 million in retail trade and 8.3 million in accommodation and food service.
