Underground Railroad Museum plans grand opening

FALLS CITY- The Underground Railroad Museum in Falls City is hosting a grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10:30 to 4 p.m.
A ribbon cutting is scheduled at 10:30 am.
The museum sets on the site of the former Dorrington House and Barn built by abolitionists David and Ann Dorrington in 1857.
David Dorrington transported mail between Falls City and Topeka, Kan., and used mail wagons to move freedom seekers out of Kansas. Ann Dorrington cared and sheltered arrivals in the barn before they continued their journey to Nebraska City and into Iowa.
The site near 1601 Stone St. is recognized by the National Park Service’s Network to Freedom program and is confirmed for underground railroad activity.
The Dorrington House and barn were replaced by the Falter’s Clothing Store in the 1880s and is today home of the Collection Museum.
The Collection Museum was founded by two friends, Susan Sipple and Darlene Hoemann, in 2022
