NEBRASKA CITY – A man convicted of the attempted armed robbery at NP Mart in Nebraska City has been sentenced to one to four years in prison, but is immediately eligible for parole because of time already served in jail.

Otoe County Attorney Jennifer Panko-Rahe said 46-year-old Christopher Driskell claims he was drugged before he went into the gas station with a BB gun, but the prosecutor said he talked about the robbery beforehand to get money to pay bills and wanted to conceal his identify by wearing a disguise.

Witnesses told police they recognized Driskell because of his voice and the way he walked.

At sentencing Driskell apologized to the victims and the community, pledging to turn his life around and stop shaking his fist at God.

Driskell: “I can’t undo what I’ve done, but I can promise to make it better, to turn it around.”

Judge Julie Smith said it is clear that Driskell has done a lot of self-reflection while in jail.

Defense Attorney Michael Ziskey said Driskell contacted the clerk outside of the store and followed her in with the BB gun, but within 30 seconds realized what he was doing was wrong and left the building.

Panko-Rahe said he ditched the coveralls he was wearing and the BB gun after the Jan. 4 crime.
