Falls City seeks design for electrical transmission
Line would connect to power pool 15 miles away in rural Kansas
FALLS CITY - The Falls City City Council is scheduled to meet at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 16.
The agenda includes a request for qualifications to design the Energy Forward Transmission Project, 2025 union contract negotiations, closing Stone Street for the Lemonade Days and the Cobblestone Festival.
The American Legion proposes fireworks on Seventh Street between Harlan and Stone streets on June 28 . The First United Methodist Church requests to close a portion of 17th Street for an ice cream social and fireworks on June 27.
The city’s safety committee proposes a hearing conservation program, a lock out tag out program and a near miss program.
Farris Engineering is assisting with the electric department’s request for qualifications on the 15 miles of transmission line and a new substation. The Board of Public Works, city representative, public works director and city administrator will review submitted qualifications. Formal interviews are planned for shortlisted firms.
Falls City is currently served by a transmission line from OPPD with a capacity of 15 mega volt amperes. Falls City receives 6 MVA from OPPD’s Nebraska City power plant, 3 MVA from Western Area and the rest from the market or from its own power plant.
The city proposes a new connection point with the Southwest Power Pool about 15 miles southwest of Falls City in rural Kansas.
Design proposals are due July 15.
