AUBURN – The Auburn Board of Public Works is pursuing plans to pull water from Long’s Creek in response to the drought contingency stage 3 water emergency.

Minutes of the May 21 meeting, say the board is working with state agencies for a temporary treatment plant for the Long’s Creek water.

The board also discussed preliminary engineering for a connection with Nebraska City Utilities’ water resources. A water subcommittee decided not to pursue an $87,000 quote from JEO.

The board noted that O’Neill Excavating of Topeka, Kan., is providing 1,800 gallons of water for the public’s outdoor use. The utility set up eight, 250-gallon water tanks at the Sport Recreation Complex campground for watering gardens and potted plants.
