Nebraska City among brownfields grant priorities
Site of former hospital, railroad depot identified for transformation
NEBRASKA CITY- Nebraska City’s central business district is among priority sites for federal Environmental Protection Agency Brownfields funding.
Projects include a 68,000-square-foot former hospital and former railroad depot in Nebraska City.
The EPA recently announced the selection of $267 million in Brownfields grants, including $1.6 million in Nebraska. The grants are intended to transform contaminated properties and create new opportunities.
Southeast Nebraska Development District Executive Director Tom Bliss said the grants turn vision into action.
He said southeast Nebraska is moving one step closer to a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable future.
The development district also received grants for Lincoln’s west Haymarket, a former airfield in Crete, and a municipal power plant in Fairbury.
